That’s a wrap

It was lovely to see, and meet the families that came to support our Year 12’s at the Graduation and Awards Ceremony held on the 15th November. Didn’t the students and school look amazing? I really resonated with what Terry Redman said about putting yourself in the ring and having a go. What a pleasure it has been to become a member of this College – something that I have only dreamed about since first coming to Denmark to deliver a barley mildew project more than 10 years ago. I look forward to many more years like this one.

The preparation for 2025 is well underway. If your child or a sibling owns a class pad (CASIO) calculator and no longer requires it, we would like to buy it off you please. The incoming Year 10 cohort is looking very strong Mathematically and we don’t have enough class pads for them to use. We encourage students that are going on to study ATAR Applications to buy one, but as they are quite expensive, we want to make one available for students that aren’t on that pathway but would still benefit in Year 10. Please get in touch with us via email.

OLNA

I have recently been in contact with parents of students that still have one or more OLNA to complete with online subscription accounts and their feedback from SCSA about what they need to do to improve. OLNA is the biggest obstacle when it comes to students graduating from WACOA- Denmark, so please encourage them to practice as much as possible before it is too late. If you believe that your child is still working towards these assessments, but didn’t get an email, please get in touch asap.

Shot-hole borer

We are lucky enough to be indulging in lovely farm-grown avocados at the moment, but our orchard and many more are under threat from the polyphagous shot-hole borer. It is now in 145 suburbs of Perth and we want to remind people about the dangers of moving any wood or plant material out of the metro area. Karri trees have now been added to the host list – scary! I have seen quarantine traps down at the port to monitor for the beetles, a reminder of how vulnerable we are to tiny pests. More information is available on the DPIRD website: www.agric.wa.gov.au/borer

Happy holidays everyone! We look forward to seeing you all in 2025.
