Issue 6 2023 - Teaching & Learning
OLNA
Week 8 was OLNA week, for some students, in the areas of Reading, Writing and Numeracy. I was pleased with the positive approach students had to this test and the work they put in to study for it prior to the official testing.
First Aid
During Week 9 and Week 10, students in Year 11 have been taking part in the First Aid course over two days. This forms an essential part of their learning that links to all areas of their lives, and is a vital skill to not only have in the workforce, but also as a citizen. It has been a fantastic opportunity for all those involved.
Mock Exams
The end of Week 9 and all of Week 10 our Year 12 ATAR students have been focusing on Mock Exams. These form their final assessments for their school year (indeed their school lives) and give them an insight into the formalities of the External Exams commencing in Week 4 of Term 4. The College is so proud of the effort they have put in over their time here and we wish them all the best for their upcoming exams and beyond.
External ATAR Exams
This year we are hosting the External ATAR Exams. Students from Denmark Senior High School will be joining our students to sit their final exams on our Campus. These Exams are run by external supervisors and start on the 30th October and finish on the 14th November (Weeks 4 - 6 of Term 4). This means that some classroom areas will be off limits during this time which will extend out of hours. as some exams will not finish until 5.15pm.
On Tuesday 24th October (Week 2 Term 4) Year 10 students will be heading out on an excursion to Albany to take part in the RAC Project Road Smart Event. This presentation ties in with their 'Keys for Life' Program and is part of the year 10 Health Curriculum. They only visit Albany every 2 years so it is great that the students are able to attend.
